Description: Messor angularis are distinguishable because of their rosy red heads and their shinier appearance due to the lack of hair they have. The only coalition between Messor angularis and Messor barbarus is their hardiness. These ants are very good for newer ant keepers who are looking to get into keeping exotic ants. They nest in the sub-saharan parts of Africa and they're known as harvester ants due to the way they collect and store seeds. The majors use their large mandibles to chew these seeds up and create 'Ant Bread'. Founding colonies will benefit from pre-crushed seeds so the younger workers can access the insides easier with their weaker mandibles. These ants will also happily enjoy extra protein from freshly killed insects. Carbohydrates can be offered sparingly.
