The Modular 2:1 Small Nest w/Humidity is designed specifically for founding to small colonies, providing a safe and comfortable environment for growth. Its compact chamber layout helps the queen feel secure and at ease, which is essential for a healthy, thriving colony. The nest includes a built-in water tower, eliminating the need for daily hydration. Moisture is slowly and consistently released as the reservoir soaks into the plaster base and diffuses through a fine mesh partition, ensuring stable humidity levels. A red acrylic cover is included, allowing you to check on your colony without fully exposing them to light. Each modular port also features a closeable gate, making expansions simple and stress-free. Just open, connect, and you’re ready to go. The 2:1 layout means two side exits and one front exit, ideal for straightforward and controlled expansions. For added peace of mind, you can also add an optional blackout cover to simulate the natural darkness of underground nests and keep your colony at ease.

Suitable For
This nest is perfect for founding colonies of large ants and small, flourishing colonies. Capacity will vary depending on the species and worker size, but it’s built to provide a safe, controlled environment.
 
Tips
You can also hydrate the plaster nest directly between the acrylic, and it will soak it up, for those species who love humidity that extra bit more.
If you're heating the nest for an exotic species, do not heat under the water reservoir, as this will create excess condensation.
For exotic species, it is recommended to heat the nest before moving the ants inside so you can monitor the temperatures within the nest and adjust it to their needs.
For exotic species, be sure to provide a heat gradient so the ants can pick and choose where to sit.
I recommend filling the water tower on arrival to let the plaster base fully soak. This first fill “breaks in” the nest, as it will arrive bone dry. After that, simply refill as needed to maintain the perfect level of hydration for your ants.
