Temperature: Nest 20- 25°C Outworld 18- 28°C


Humidity: Nest 50- 70% Outworld 30- 50%


Hibernation: Yes from the end of October to the end of February at 5- 8°C 


Diet: Water (at all times). Carbohydrates like honey water/ sugar water or other. Protein like fresh-killed insects or other.


Colony form: Secondary Polygyn (can acquire a second queen in older colonies). Average 3,000 workers per colony.


Founding Queen: Semi Claustral (with feeding)


Nest type: Acrylic, Y tong, Natural setup.
 

Sizes: Queen- 9.5mm- 13mm/ Worker- 6- 9mm


Bite/ Sting/ Formic acid: Yes, they have a potent sting which people compare to a wasp sting.

 

Description: Manica rubida is known for being the Europeans largest stinging ant. They have a potent sting and are very aggressive. You may often spot the queen leaving the nest to forage in the outworld for herself. They take down prey with their potent sting and are always protein hungry.
