Description: Crematogaster scutellaris are an invasive ant and can be known as a pest in some areas around the warmer parts of Europe. These ants are personally one of my favourite species with a beautifully shaped gaster and a very fast growth rate. They have the ability to raise their gaster above their body and its great to see. They also raise their gaster and squirt a drop of formic acid to warn other ants of danger. They do not use this to take down prey but more of a defence mechanism.
