Hibernation: No but a couple months winter break is recommended.


Diet: Water (at all times). Carbohydrates like honey water/ sugar water or other. Protein like fresh-killed insects or other.


Colony form: Monogyne (one queen per colony) Average 5,000 workers per colony.


Founding Queen: Claustral (without feeding)


Nest type: Acrylic, Y tong, Natural setup.
 

Sizes: Queen- 18- 19mm/ Major- 15- 18mm/ Worker- 7- 12mm


Bite/ Sting/ Formic acid: Majors can bite.

 

Description: Camponotus sanctus are known as carpenter ants as they're often found nesting in wood. They're amongst the biggest ants in Africa and are very pretty. They are very aggressive and defensive and the majors have very powerful mandibles. You will not be disappointed by the size of these ants. They show high foraging activity once the colonies become a little more mature.
