Description: The famous Green-Headed Ant! Rhytidponera metallica is a gorgeous multi-coloured small species from Australia. They cannot walk on smooth surfaces, therefore are easy to contain and you can even have them in an open-lid setup. A very rewarding species to watch flourish. When housed in a test tube, I would recommend adding some substrate like sand to allow the colony more grip and the larvae can use it to spin cocoons. Often communicate with each other by rubbing body parts and creating very quiet sounds we cannot hear.
